About the Award

Dr. Hasson was a true visionary, dedicated physician, and prolific inventor of surgical and educational devices and techniques. His legacy endures with the cannula and open laparoscopy techniques that bear his name. Dr. Hasson was AAGL’s 19th president and a passionate leader and proponent of lifelong learning for surgical gynecologists.

How to Nominate

To submit a nomination for the Harrith M. Hasson Scholarship and Award, please follow the link below. Nominations must be submitted by midnight, PST Friday, August 20, 2021.

Award Eligibility

The nominee must meet the following requirements:

  • Physician from a developing economy.
  • Must be a member of the AAGL and a Practicing Physician
  • If selected, you will be invited to attend AAGL’s 50th Global Congress to accept the award in-person at the General Session AM Monday, November 15, 2021. *


Required Documents for Nominations

All nominations must include the following documents:

  • Completion of the award application outlining the nominee’s education and training; the current status of healthcare for women, including MIGS, in their country; the nominee’s goals for the development of MIGS in their country, and why they want to attend the AAGL Global Congress.
  • A current curriculum vitae (CV) of the nominee.
  • Self-nominations are acceptable and must include a letter of reference.

Award Notification

The Foundation of the AAGL Board will notify the award recipient, and nominator, no later than September 10, 2021.

Award Winnings

The winner of this prestigious award will receive*:

  • Registration, Airfare and Hotel Accommodations for the 50th Global Congress in Austin, Texas (Saturday, November 13, 2021 for 4 nights)
  • Foundation Fundraiser Ticket
  • Gala Ticket
  • Recognition on the Foundation website.
  • Recognition in Foundation promotional materials.
  • Recognition in the Global Congress Final Program and JMIG Abstract.
  • Recognition on stage and presentation of a commemorative plaque at the AAGL’s 50th Global Congress, Monday, November 15, 2021 in Austin, Texas.

* Winnings and presentation of this scholarship are subject to change based on COVID-19 pandemic travel restrictions. The AAGL 50th Global Congress will be held in a hybrid format with in-person and online attendance options. If travel is restricted, this scholarship will provide online registration to the AAGL 50th Global Congress.
