About the Award

A passionate leader, advocate, and member of the AAGL since 1971, Franklin D. Loffer, MD, FACOG, has worked diligently to develop and guide the organizational and medical policies of the AAGL. With a thoughtful approach and exceptional commitment, he has served the AAGL in the roles of Board President, AAGL Medical Director, Executive Vice-President and Emeritus Medical Director of the Foundation Board of Directors. Dr. Loffer has been a mentor and champion to countless AAGL members and has made an impact on women’s health through his publications and teaching contributions in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery.

Established in 2018, the Franklin D. Loffer, MD, Exceptional Resident Award recognizes a resident who demonstrates leadership in their training program and a commitment to minimally invasive gynecologic surgery. This award was established to acknowledge the outgoing AAGL President’s leadership and demonstrates AAGL’s commitment to mentoring future leaders.

How to Nominate

The Franklin D. Loffer Exceptional Resident Award Application is now closed.

Award Eligibility

The nominee must demonstrate significant contributions as a Resident and meet the following requirements:

  • Selected as a “2023 Honorary AAGL Resident” by their CREOG Program Director.
  • Must be a member of the AAGL; Resident status.
  • Entering 4th year of Residency in July 2023.
  • If selected, the winner will accept the award in-person at AAGL’s 52nd Global Congress in Nashville, Tennessee, USA.

Required Documents for Nominations

All nominations must include the following documents:

  • Completion of the award application outlining how the nominee exemplifies Dr. Loffer’s leadership qualities and exceptional commitment to MIGS and the nominee’s goals for their future.
  • A current curriculum vitae (CV) of the nominee.
  • Self-nominations are acceptable and should include a letter of reference.

Award Notification

The Foundation of the AAGL Board will notify the award recipient, nominators and award applicants.

Award Winnings

The winner of this prestigious award will receive:

  • Registration for the 52nd Global Congress in Nashville, Tennessee.
  • A travel stipend to attend the Global Congress.
  • Recognition on the Foundation website.
  • Recognition in Foundation promotional materials.
  • Recognition in the Global Congress Final Program.
  • Recognition on stage and presentation of a commemorative plaque at the AAGL’s 52nd Global Congress in Nashville, Tennessee.
